You may already know that Detroit has a special place in my heart, its my hometown and a very big part of me and all the things I love from music, sports, and some of the best food you will ever have! I headed home this past week to see my first niece get married to the love of her life! It was by far one of the happiest days I’ve ever celebrated with my family and it was so amazing to be a part of her big day!

Every time I come back to Detroit I feel like I’m seeing a city that is constantly evolving with more places, shops and new things to see! So I wanted to share 7 Reasons to visit Detroit!

1. Go see a Sporting Event!

7 Reasons to visit Detroit

If your a sports fan, Detroit is a great place to experience a major league game from Hockey, Baseball or Basketball! I never knew how lucky I was to have 3 major league teams in my hometown. Now living in San Antonio, I’m really missing going to MLB games. Our closest teams in Texas are in Houston and Arlington. So during our visit we definitely took advantage and went to see the Detroit Tigers play the Chicago White Sox at Comerica Park! It was my huuby’s first Baseball game ever and it was such a fun experience. No matter when you visit, you can always see a great game! Be sure to stop and see the new Little Caesars Arena to watch the Pistons or Redwings play!

2. Visit Greektown!

Greektown is the perfect downtown experience day or night! Tons of restaurants from the new Wahlburgers to the iconic Fishbones, plus a casino that has 3 floors of fun! We definitely take advantage of the nightlife experience and enjoy Greektown every time we visit!

3. Stop by Belle Isle!

Belle Isle is the perfect place to enjoy a picnic with a view of the Canada sky line of the Detroit River. I met up with one of my favorite Detroit bloggers, Jennifer from Good Life Detroit and she shared a few of her favorite spots to visit and spend family time! You can also rent a bicycle for $8 and ride around Belle Isle and take in all the beautiful scenery. Stop by and visit the museum, aquarium or conservatory!

One of the most iconic places in Detroit and definitely a must see is the Motown Museum better known as Hitsville U.S.A. Check out my video and all the great reasons your should visit this historic place! Barry Gordy has created the Motown sound from this exact building that was his home! The history and music legends that came from Motown is surreal and I’m so happy that it’s still around to experience today!

6. Visit Historic Corktown Detroit

Corktown has the best pubs, restaurants, shops and is one of the cities oldest neighborhoods with cobblestone streets and great scenery! It is also home of the previous Tiger Stadium, where all the greats played. The actual ballpark has been revamped into a new and improved field called “The Corner Ballpark presented by Adient” and is also the home of the Detroit Pal organization. It was such a wonderful sight to see the home plate of the field in the exact same spots as Tiger Stadium, with historic artifacts and even actual seats from the original stadium. You can take a tour and see a piece of history, contact Detroit Pal for community access hours.

7. Visit Campus Martius

Campus Martius is a re-established park in the heart of Downtown Detroit! You will love the open seating, flourishing gardens, restaurants, shops and buildings surrounding the park! In the winter you can find an ice skating rink to enjoy the holidays and cup of hot chocolate. In the summer the park is filled with sand and beach chairs in the middle of Downtown Detroit! Its a real treat! Check out my Welcome to Detroit video on YouTube to see more!
