The season of fall has always reminded me of having NESTLÉ® ABUELITA® with my family. Growing up I spent a lot of time with my grandmothers on both sides and they both always had ABUELITA® in their kitchen to give all the grandchildren. When I had my daughter in 2004 only one of my grandmothers was still around to meet her, Mama Rosa and Mariya had a bond that was even closer than what I can remember. Since I was a full-time working single mom, my father would babysit my daughter when she was a toddler and they spent almost everyday at Mama Rosa’s house. Mariya spent her early years watching the horse races on T.V. because Mama Rosa had an enormous love for Horses and ironically so does my daughter. Mariya spent 4 wonderful years getting to know her great-grandmother and she never forgets to remember her every time she see’s horses and even more special we honor her every year on Dia de los Muertos!
Abuelita Hot Chocolate has a way of bringing families together, my little baby girl who is thirteen now loves to cook and make recipes to share with our family and friends. We love to make this Coconut Tres Leches Hot Chocolate recipe, it’s so delicious and still has the amazing “calor de hogar” taste that Abuelita has always had over the years!

- 2 cups Milk 2% or whole milk
- 1 can unsweetened coconut milk light or regular, 14-ounce
- 1/2 can sweetened condensed milk

- In a medium saucepan, combine the milk, coconut milk and sweetened condensed milk, whisking well to combine. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally so the mixture doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pan. Once simmering, drop in (1) Tablet of Nestlé Abuelita Hot Chocolate and let it dissolve while stirring until the mixture is smooth.
- Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the vanilla. Serve the hot chocolate in mugs topped with sweetened whipped cream, chocolate shavings, marshmallows, or whatever else your little heart desires.
This recipe is a favorite in our home. Its the perfect taste of Hot Chocolate and Coconut to enjoy on a chilly day!
It’s amazing how the bond that Mariya and Mama Rosa only became stronger as the years go by. Every time Mariya get’s on a horse to ride she always thinks of Mama Rosa. We wish that she was still here to see Mariya ride her horse Mia, but my daughter always says she knows that she’s watching her from above. I can only imagine how proud she is seeing one of her own great-grandchildren riding a horse!
We always think of our Abuelas especially during Dia de los Muertos and share stories to keep their memory with us. It’s amazing how so many different things can remind you of the special connections that families build throughout the years. Abuelita Hot Chocolate is one tradition that will always be apart of our family!
Seeing the picture of Mama Rosa and Mariya made my day. It makes me so happy she spent that time with her. Let her know that Mama Rosa is ALWAYS with her.
Aww Lucy, that means so much! Mariya treasures this picture and we have it in our home all the time because it really reminds us of home! Love you!
