With the Eclipse of 2017 being the most exciting thing to happen lately, we had to share some of our favorite D.I.Y. Galaxy Themed Crafts! We shared our fun crafts on my latest segment of SA Live on KSAT 12 and everyone loved them! The best part is all of these crafts can be made with simple items that you probably have in your kitchen! How cool it that!!!! Lets get to it….
Galaxy in a Bottle!
You will need: Mason Jars or any bottle with a lid (any size), Glow in the Dark paint (Pink or Blue), Food Coloring, Cotton Balls, Glitter and Water.
How To: Layer the glass bottle with the above ingredients in this order, Cotton Balls, Paint, food coloring, glitter, then add water until saturated and then repeat the process until its’ completely filled.
Galaxy Play Dough!
You will need: 1 cup flour, 1 cup water, 1/2 cup of salt, 1 tbsp vegetable oil, 1 tsp of Cream of Tarter, food coloring, glitter.
How to: Add flour, water, salt, vegetable oil, cream of tarter and food coloring to a saucepan and warm over a medium heat. Once it thickens remove from heat and let it cool. (Make sure to create & warm each color separately)
Galaxy Moon Rocks!
You will need: 4 cups of Baking Soda, 1/4 cup of water, gold and silver glitter, and black food coloring.
How to: Combine baking soda, water and glitter and a large bowl and mix. Form circles with the mixture and let it sit outside in the heat overnight! Keep the rocks away from moisture, as time passes they will harden and look just like moon rocks

That galaxy in a jar is pretty awesome. My kiddos would love the play dough with the glitter.
These are perfect crafts to teach about the solar system. The eclipse would have been a great day to pull these out with the kids.

Such cute craft ideas! I will definitely have to try out the galaxy play dough with my daughter. She loves making play dough and slimes !
The galaxy play dough is perfect activity for toddlers to help develop their fine motor skills. I’d like to try the galaxy rock. The finished product can be used as a home display too!
This is a great craft idea for kids. I will have to give it a try with my kids, I think they would really love this.
