Hey all, Welcome to my favorite things..Part 2! This post includes my two favorite foods… Tacos and Conchas! Not only are these more amazing products made by fellow Latinos y Latina’s but the creativity in on another level! Prepare yourself because you are going to get hungry just reading this post!
I’m so excited to share a few more talented Latina’s with you. I came across their ETSY stores and just loved their products. Even more, I love the creativity and heart that goes into all their work! So make sure to stop by their stores and check them out!
I first saw Ahliyah Crafts on Instagram, and I loved her designs…. Seriously how more cute can they be! I could not wait to order the Princess Lea for my daughter and of course the concha is for me! When I reached out to Sandra, the creative soul behind these designs, she was so sweet! She crochets all her designs by hand, and once I received my order I was even more impressed with quality and size of her products for just $8.00. I thought they were smaller because they are described as “mini key chains” but they are a pretty good size, and you are definitely getting your monies worth with her handmade touch to each piece. I’m going to order the concha key chain in the to other colors too! Can you tell I love conchas!
Once I got to know Sandra, I seriously loved her drive and passion, she’s one strong Latina! Here is her background and story on how she started Ahliyah’s Crafts!
Sandra Ramirez was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. she began to crochet in her spare time during her college years at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Being a first generation Latina college student, she didn’t feel too comfortable for the first 2 years. She spent most of her time in her dorm and would crochet the nights away. Eventually she created her Etsy Shop and just recently began setting a table every 2nd Thursday of the month at the Downtown LA Art Walk! Sandra has been questioned about the name of her shop before and never gave a full response until now. The name Ahliyah (Ah-Lie-Yah) was given to her by a beautiful sisterhood, Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, Inc., their focus is on empowering young women from different backgrounds. Sandra said “They taught me how to become a leader not only within my community, but within myself as well. It is one of the main reasons why I decided to stop being afraid of failure and to work hard to get to where I want to be”. Sandra’s goal at the moment is to create a scholarship fund generated through the sales from her shop that will help a 1st generation young woman seeking higher education.
How awesome is her story, I love supporting businesses such as Ahliyah Crafts ,her talents speak volumes and seeing her going above and beyond to help others is just so amazing! Sandra is also giving away 3 of her beautiful pieces to one lucky winner.
