We recently took a short trip to the Rio Grande Valley and we had a blast! I really enjoy discovering new places to visit, shop and of course EAT! When I would think about what was in the valley of the Texas southern border years ago, the only thing that I would reference was South Padre Island. Actually you will drive through the Valley to get to the famous fun island but the Rio Grande Valley has grown a lot over the years from an increase population to fun things to do. The largest city in the Valley is Brownsville, followed by McAllen. Other major cities include Harlingen, Edinburg, Mission, Rio Grande City, Raymondville, Weslaco, Hidalgo and Pharr.
We enjoyed our road trip in a 2019 Chevy Colorado, this was such a great vehicle to take a short road trip in! Some of my favorite things about Chevy Trucks like this one is the interactive music connection, the Wifi & Hotspot that is a big help to me to while I’m working on the go and keeps Mariya connected to watch her favorite movies! Oh and the wireless phone charger, what a life saver!
Make sure to check out my fun video series Girl Talk Car Chronicles with Leslie from LeslieApproved, we had a blast discovering new places in the valley together!
Start your day with a great coffee or latte that is very insta-worthy at Semilla Coffe Lab!
This place was so cute and had a really great coffee! Check out our video to see more of the inside! This is definitely a great place to visit when your in the valley!
Picture fun with Picture the Scene in McAllen!
This was definitely one of my favorite stops in the valley! I’ve never been to a place like this, but I know they are popping up everywhere and I’m so excited that we found Picture the Scene!
And they are dog friendly!!!
So one thing I learned is that you can’t go wrong with food in the Rio Grande Valley! As you may have heard in our video, Leslie gave us the scoop on some of her favorite places to try out! We actually stopped by Delias Tamales which are by far some of the best Tamales I’ve ever had, and they actually will ship Tamales to you wherever you are!
We also enjoyed breakfast at Junction Cafe in Pharr, which had great choices from Pork Chops and Eggs, Chilequiles to French Toast! Definitely stop by next time you are in the valley!
Here are a list of Restaurants that are Leslie Approved and should definitely be on your list!
Fernando’s in Pharr, Panchos Restaurant, McAllen Food Truck, Cosmos Kitchen, Mama Mia’s Pizza, Dejarvis Taco, Kumori Sushi, Don Pepe’s, La Costa Grill, Kocina Il Forno, Costa Mesa in McAllen.
A few other things that we love to enjoy during the Holidays is the Festival of Lights in Hidalgo. If you are ever in the Valley during the Holidays, this is such a fun experience! The entire town is lite up with lights and the themes are different every year!
Some of the best places to shop in the Rio Grande Valley is definitely La Plaza Mall and don’t forget about the outlets!
The Rio Grande Valley – Mercedes Outlets is an outdoor mega mall that has all of your favorite stores!
